Parents and Caregivers
Whether you are a parent of an elementary school student or a teenager, let’s partner together. It is my belief that parents can be the most effective agents of change in their child’s life. When you become a parent, you aren’t handed a guide on how to support a depressed teen, how to navigate raising a child through divorce, or how to respond to your kid melting down in the middle of Target. But when you become a parent, there is an unspoken expectation that you should know how to handle anything and everything when it comes to your kids. Parenting is hard work and if your child is struggling, odds are you feel their pain and are struggling too.
In my work with parents, I work to normalize parenting struggles, build crucial parenting skills, and problem-solve family situations. I use First Approach Skills Training, and Attachment-Based Family Therapy (depending on the needs of each family). Some of my favorite therapeutic moments have been when parents tell me they feel more equipped to validate their kids, help them (co)regulate their emotions, or feel they can more effectively set limits and rules at home.
